Remember when?

Remember when the doctor used to be the family friend, and you didn't need insurance or a lawyer to defend? The way that he took care of you or what he had to do, because he took an oath and strived to do the best for you. And, made house calls!

Remember when going to the store and shopping casually....and when you went to pay for your purchase, you used your own money? Nothing that you had to swipe or punch in some amount....

Remember when the cashier person had to really count?

Remember when you saw the milkman going from door to door?

Remember when there was a time when just one glance was all that it would take and you would know the kind of car, model and make by it's unique style. They were streamlined, white walls, fins and really had some style. Now they all look the same.

Remember when the music you played was from a vinyl, big-holed record called a forty-five? The record player had a post to keep them all in line and then the records would drop down and play one at a time.

Remember when life seemed so much easier and slower in some ways? Don't get me wrong, I personally love the new technology but I sure miss some of those days. So, time moves on and so do we, and nothing stays the same. But I sure love to reminisce and walk down memory lane now and then.

Oh sure, we had our problems then, just like we do today and as always we were striving and trying for a better way. Oh, the simple life we lived still seems like so much fun. How can you explain a game, just kick the can and run?

Or playing Jacks!

Remember when!

Hugs, Rose

  1. I remember seeing an older man sitting on a curb, crying softly. I asked him if he was alright and he said, "Yes, I'll be ok in a while. I have a beautiful twenty-eight year old wife who adores me, waits on me hand and foot and loves to have sex with me."

I said, "you're a very lucky man. Why are you crying?" The old man said, "I can't remember where I live."

  4. I remember most of those things except we lived out in the country and milked our own cows LOL. I only remember one dr housecall to a dying grandparent. I also remember the old 78 records where you had to put on an adapter for the 45. I still have some of both kind of records. You can still buy the record players for those old things. I need one of those LOL. Helen

  5. I am 38 years old. I remember some of it. I remember using only money at the store and not credit cards. I dont remember t he milk man but my grandmother still had some of the old bottles around. I remember the record player. I used to buy records instead of tapes or cds when I was a teenager. I remember having to have imagination instead of having everything there in front or you. There wasnt any videa games . We actually had to play board games with each other and not alone. I liked it better those days. Kids barely play with toys anymore. They just play with video games and computer games. it's ashame.... hugs, Christine

  8. Hi Rose,
Yes, I remember them all.  I remember going to this small dept store on Shirley Ave to pick up items for my Mom and the owner would put the sale on a book.  Back then you would pay maybe $2.00 - $3.00 a week for your purchases as they trusted the customer to come back and make the payments.

Those were the good old days, you hung out on the corner with your friends and had so much fun.  The worse thing I think I did back then was have my ears pierced (by a doctor) and all the old biddy neighbors talked about it. Oh yes, can't forget I put some peroxide on my brown hair.

Now there is so much technology which I try to keep up with.  I bought an Ipod last year and now there are new ones out on the market, I have a cell phone but now there is an updated one.  Just can't keep up with all these changes.

  9. The bit about cashiers counting change really hits home with me.  Today, if they do not get the change amount on the register, they are lost <LOL>

  12. Great entry!  I do remember all of these except the doctor making house calls.  And, you are spot on with the point about cars being identifiable before.  I had no interest in buying a car after my accident because nothing excited me.  One was the same as the other to me.

  13.     I remember. I tried to teach my kids how to play 'Kick the Can' once. They wanted to, but they couldn't get their friends away from the TV long enough to find a can. It wasn't long after that my kids discovered video games.
