I was at the Mall the other day and noticed so many men were carrying the new "Man bag". Well, they are not really new, they have been around for a long time now. Most stores are calling them "Messenger Bags".
They now have gone upscale. I've certainly noticed them before but the upscale ones are over the top price wise!
Designers have gone wild making them
in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Yikes, these prices are absolutely crazy!
Ralph
Lauren makes a $22,000 alligator attache. Louis Vuitton sells a $2,780 canvas men’s
backpack emblazoned with the label’s monogram print, and pricier backpacks are
sold by Valentino ($3,695) and Fendi ($5,000).
And men
thought women were outrageous with their pricey handbags!

Unmistakably, these aren’t your dad’s briefcases–they tend to
serve multiple purposes as users commute, go through their work day,
transitioning into evening activities, and some can also serve the user for
overnights. Remember, Dads did not have
laptops years ago.
I just hope the media refrains from calling them “murses”!
There
are plenty of reasonable and fashionable choices a guy can make today. It seems that for many, using a man bag
became the norm a while back, it’s just
that there weren’t so many luxury runway pieces like they have now.
The reasonably priced ones are nice and I personally don't see much of a difference then carrying a briefcase. In fact, these are easier to carry because of the cross body straps.
Will this be on your gift list for Father's Day?
I am a cheap skate. It is in my blood. I carried a nice brief case for years, Leather with all the neat stuff, $30 tops. I never judge what a person buys, if they can afford it, fine with me. I am away from the business world now, so let the guys enjoy those cute perks (smile), I'd rather fish. hahaha!
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of this new trend for men. Fascinating. The bags look very versatile.
ReplyDeletePS) Hope you had a nice Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteIt's true about the bag, we never really see a briefcase any more but I have seen a lot of those messenger bags. Times keep changing and fashion isn't just for us women. I can't imagine anyone spending over 1000 dollars for a bag though.
ReplyDeleteInteresting blog, I guess I haven't really thought about this. The old briefcases are gone. I think carrying around laptops must have had something to do with this.
ReplyDeletei think every man who needs on should carry a man bag....both my sons have very nice leather one!!!
ReplyDeleteI dumped briefcases and ties years ago as I own my company and I can do as I please. The messenger bags are ok, but I wouldn't be caught dead using one. I'm called enough names as it is.
ReplyDeleteI do, however, occasionally use a Publix plastic shopping bag to carry my stuff to the car.
