Here we go changing the clocks again! Stupid!

Here we go again, on Sunday, November 2, it will be the end of Daylight Saving Time.  Many of us will be grunting to ourselves as we wander from room to room resetting all of our clocks: you know all the ones we have on the clock radio, stove, microwave, thermostat, wrist watches, etc.  And, every year I forget to change the clock in my car!  I prefer daylight savings time.

Yes, you will get an extra hour of sleep by turning back the clock by an hour in the fall. But if you have a regular day job, you'll be commuting home in the dark instead of in daylight. Why do we do this every fall?  I always felt it was a stupid thing to do.  I'm retired now but I'm still concerned about my family and friends that still work.

Turning the clocks back and waking up in the predawn darkness is simply bad for your health, especially if you are elderly or have a heart condition, researchers have noted in their medical studies.  Going to bed in the dark and waking up in the dark is simply stupid in my opinion.

Isn't it more important to save lives and save electricity? Why can't we convince the government to leave our clocks alone and set and Daylight Savings Time?  I'm sure the farmers would appreciate it as well. And, the children have more play time outdoors after dinner.  Of course, today the kids play with their electronics more than riding their bikes or playing on a swing set in the backyard.  Those were the good old days!

Arizona and Hawaii are the only two states that do not change their clocks.  So how can we convince all of our local governments to take on this initiative?  Complaining by myself does not help.  You need everyone to complain to get somewhere.

  1. I have to disagree. I love Daylight Savings Time. The sunrise and sunset time is different for us New Englanders than for people in Florida. Without DST we'd have summer sunrises in New England at about 4:15 am. In Florida it would be at 5:30. I much prefer having daylight at 8:45 pm than at 4am. Sunrise/sunset times vary depending on latitude.

    Dear Rose,

I totally agree with you! Twice a year I feel this way and wonder why? Why don't all of the USA or none of the States do it? Maybe one day legislation will be put forth to change this. Until that day happens, know that, you are alone in your thoughts.

    Love,and miss you, alli.

  3. Ruthie, I love daylight savings time too. That was my purpose in writing this Post.

I also prefer dalight at 8:45 PM than at 5:00 PM.

So, I don't understand when you say you disagree???

  4. My husband has a hard time adjusting to the darkness. me I love it.

  5. I like it to stay one way or the other. There is always a hassle with folks who work the mid shift.
I have changing the clocks. You make sense about Day-light savings time, I had just never gave which one much thought, JUST SIMPLy DECIDE AND USE ONE! So I go with you, that is as good as any. This is crazy it has always bugged me. I have never met the person that it didn't, funny that? No one we know likes it but it continues...

  6. They say it saves lots of money to be on daylight savings time. I don't know exactly where or how but I do wish we'd just stick to one time and save the hassle of it all. I forgot one year to reset my clock and found myself missing out on church services that Sunday. The place was empty. Hopefully I'll do better this year. I don't remember if it was forward or back.

  7. I don't get it either, I like a lil more daylight in the evenings!!

  8. What we are going "back" to tonight is our real time. I wouldn't have a problem if we just stayed on DST all the time.

  9. Hi Rose....I agree with you in thinking daylight savings is kind of stupid. Brother.

Glad you got to Boston. I've been to that very Kelly's Seafood place----this past summer, as a matter of fact. Had luscious fat-bellied clams there. YUM!

Are you still planning to move to Boston?

Were you ever able to sell your sweet dollies? Susan

  10. Dear Rose, I agree. It gets dark much too early and you wake up in the dark. I am already looking forward to spring. It is windy and cold here already. Blessings dear. Catherine

  11. Ma Rose, I TOTALLY AGREE 100% we should leave it alone!!!! This weekend and Christmas are the two most fatal weekends. People die of heart attacks and suicide during these two times of the year more than any other time. Let's eliminate just one! Falling back in time!!!! Can you research how to bring it to congress? I think all you need to do is get a petition started with 1000 signatures!!! Love you!!!!
