Wisdom!

Getting older is not much fun, Oh my! I've noticed a decline after each birthday arrives each year. I've lost a bit of that snap-crackle-pop speed but after reading some medical articles, the mental powers I have gained is supposed to be a bargain. Yeah....right! I'm making myself sound ancient but I'm no longer "middle aged"! And, yes that AARP magazine is in my mailbox!

I guess, in the old days they called it wisdom....what the heck is wisdom but a dense and rich network of a lifetime of experiences. You can't buy that richness, you can't get it from a pill. You have to earn it....by putting your gray matter to the test time and time again and that gray matter is also in my hair! Thank goodness for hair color!

There is a reason we don't have 20 year olds running Fortune 500 companies. Well, we do have some very young self-made millionaires in the technology industry these days and they got their ideas from playing "pack man"!

So, I guess we older folks are better at solving problems, more flexible in our strategies, and better able to keep our cool during a crisis than younger people. I think we bounce back from a bad mood more quickly too. I'll keep that in mind the next time I find myself wandering through the Mall parking lot looking for my car and cursing (futta, futta) because I can't remember where I parked it! hehehehehe

I certainly wouldn't mind looking younger, I would actually be thrilled but I wouldn't want to look like plastic. I earned some of those laugh lines from happiness. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the frown lines from sad times. Did I forget to mention the weight gain after I stopped smoking almost 2 years ago? Oh my...depressing! Kudos that I'm no longer smoking but I miss my single digit size clothes.......Ugh.
MakeupOh the miracle and magic of make-up! LOL

Books, Books, Books!

Talking bookWe even have talking books!

I have been spending a lot of hours in my brand new Library which absolutely fascinates me…the place is so beautiful! I started to search for something interesting to read whether fiction, non fiction and then I found myself in the “Self Help” isle…….so I took out a couple of books to read in that category as well, everyone can use some help, I know I can use some for sure!
The weather here in South Florida has been perfect………temperatures have dropped to 80 degrees and less humidity and that awful sticky heat is gone. So, sitting outdoors in the terrace section of the library with the spectacular view overlooking the lake…sipping on a cup of coffee……..perfect setting for reading!

After reading one of the self help books, I came to the conclusion that the information you get from the best self-help books are very good. Writers have mapped out the roads to in great detail, but the map is not the territory. Everyone’s road is unique and different from any other!

A self-help book can only give you general guidelines. It cannot act on your behalf. You are the one who must take the words and turn them into action and your way of taking action will always be personal. The writer’s map is his or hers, not yours! These books are not written for you personally. To make a book work, you must rewrite it to fit you!

By the way, that fella that winked at me the last time I was there….was there again and he noticed me walking out into the terrace. He brought me over a cup of coffee! He just put the coffee down on the table, winked at me again and just walked away before I could say thank you. Hmmmm! He was no where in sight when I left. This can get interesting! Hey, Jimmy Sullivan….what to you make of this? LOL

At first, I thought perhaps this gentleman works there but I asked the lady behind the café counter about the man who bought me a cup of coffee and she said no he does not work there but he comes there a lot to read and have coffee. Well, you know I certainly walked out of the Library with an extra skip to my step! LOL

New Library in Boca!

Wow.....my town's new library has 50,000 square feet on two full floors. I felt like I was in a huge Palace!

The Library couldn't be more beautiful or convenient for me. It has an entry way that leads to a circular drive with a covered drop-off and a drive-up book drop! The rear is an amazing focal point of the building, with the back of the building facing the existing lake.

In addition, there is a café for coffee, a bagel, or lunch which I liked very much. A rear terrace facing the lake provides space to eat outside. A beautiful rooftop terrace allows library users a space to sit, read, and relax. This place is spectacular! I love the terrace and the atmosphere.

Looks like this will be a new hangout for me! I enjoyed breakfast there yesterday and I plan on having a quiet lunch there today after selecting a good book to read.

Yesterday, a charming gentleman nodded his head as I walked by and winked at me! LOL Well, that made my day! That doesn't happen too often to people my age! LOL

I had a very enjoyable day!

Happy Halloween!

It's that time of the year again!

As you open this email, don't you feel a tingling in your fingers, an inexplicable coldness, a strange vibration? Slowly, you carefully click your mouse to open it.

BOO! SCREEEEEEEECH! GOTCHA! Kind of anticlimactic, but I had you going there for a minute, didn't I? Happy Halloween! LOL

If you plan to trick or treat in my neighborhood this year....be warned....I didn't buy any Halloween candy!

Well, Halloween is my least favorite occasion for some reason but I thought I would acknowledge the date where most of you enjoy dressing up in costumes and having a fun party. So you go ghoul................I said dress up as an inmate.......not become one! LOL
Stay safe while Trick or Treating!

Hugs, Rose
P.S. Is everyone else having the same problems I am having trying to insert a picture, graphic and place it in a certain location of the text and it just won't go there? Then sometimes it looks good and you click on save and when you view it again........the picture is not where you put it! Ugh!

Also, I have just spent the last 30 minutes trying to figure out why there was such a long gap at the end of my entry to the bottom where the "Comments" are located???? So, I thougt I'd try and fill up the huge gap by adding to it. LOL

I do have to admit....AOL Journals were alot easier to dance around and create your Journal to look exactly the way you want it. NO CAN DO in this site. LOL

Happy Hour

I felt the need to meet a girlfriend for Happy Hour yesterday, as I was so tired and beat after all the copying and pasting of the old AOL Journals, etc. I'm thrilled that the migration went over fairly smoothly. Of course, it still meant I had to add my sidebar graphics. I'm still not sure if I like the template that I selected because some of my graphics have a white background and my wallpaper is pink..........Oh......the graphics with the transparent backgrounds look better.

Getting back to the Happy Hour! I was thrilled to be outdoors as I was getting cabin fever being stuck in front of my computer for days.

So, hey to Jimmy Sullivan.....I found my own Area 51 at Pranzo's in Mizner Park (Ladies drink free between 5:00 and 7:00).

As I waited for my girlfriend at the bar, this slimy looking guy, who clearly had one beer too many, looked me up and down. I did my best to ignore him but he wouldn't go away. He later tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I have a water bed and could show you the motion of the ocean!"

Oh this creep! I replied "Sorry, Captain, but I'm already seasick"

Where are all the nice guys? I haven't been out in a long time but lately all the men I meet seem to have a screw loose!

The Bailout

The risk-takers are the people who have made America what it is today. We are all in this together from CEOs to shareholders, from factory workers to farmers; we all have a stake in each other's success and we all suffer for the other's greed and mismanagement of large corporations

The GREED from some of these CEOs should be controlled. We the taxpayers should not have to bailout the huge corporations while the CEOs of those companies received bonuses in the millions........I say take the money from them and also put the bastards in jail!

What did I hear on the News last night? ....the mess our country is in….. is being called the "Economic Pearl Harbor"! Scary. We kept getting the warnings, this is worse than the Great Depression.

The bailout proposal is the most dramatic government intervention in the financial system since the Great Depression. Whether you are young or old...........we are all affected and we will all struggle through this horrible ordeal. We need a powerful antibiotic to remedy this pain!

This mess didn't happen overnight. It has been going on for years and no one has done a damn thing about it. It is called GREED! GREED denotes desire to accumulate wealth beyond the needs of the individual, especially when this huge accumulation of wealth denies others legitimate needs.

GREED is the selfish desire to acquire money, wealth, power, especially when this denies the same goods to others. In plain English.........we all got screwed! I want to know, how did we allow this to all happen? Why didn't someone stop these individuals? Why? Why? Why? Makes me sick!

This mess caused huge debt for so many people! Washington Mutual Bank bottomed out……..mutual funds tanked Blue Chip Stocks are tumbling. Frightening.

Hey, let's just print out those new green hundred dollar bills by the billions and billions....put the greedy CEOs in jail and call it a day!

I would love to see how these greedy people like their new four wall surroundings in jail!

I'm boiling mad..............are you????

Fall and Apple Pie!

Oh, how I miss the fall season in New England! The beautiful foliage, falling leaves, breathing in crisp, cool air.

Wish I were in New England in front of a bon fire in Vermont or Maine.

We Floridians don't experience change of seasons...just hot and hotter. The Newscaster announced a cold front coming in our area....I cracked up...Yeah, right it will drop to 88 degrees from 94....that's what they call a cold front down here.

Well, I'm sure my daughter will have her camera with her at all times to capture the beautiful foliage in Vermont.

Wow, I remember hand picking the apples and my mother baking pies and cooling them in the opened window sills. Can’t do that here in Florida!

While you guys up north are starting to put your heavy sweaters on to keep warm because your temperatures will start dropping in the evening soon. We are down here in Florida trying to keep cool. The air conditioner is on 24/7.

I guess you can tell I'm missing my roots! LOL

Do you have a change of seasons where you live?

Remember when?

Remember when the doctor used to be the family friend, and you didn't need insurance or a lawyer to defend? The way that he took care of you or what he had to do, because he took an oath and strived to do the best for you. And, made house calls!

Remember when going to the store and shopping casually....and when you went to pay for your purchase, you used your own money? Nothing that you had to swipe or punch in some amount....

Remember when the cashier person had to really count?

Remember when you saw the milkman going from door to door?

Remember when there was a time when just one glance was all that it would take and you would know the kind of car, model and make by it's unique style. They were streamlined, white walls, fins and really had some style. Now they all look the same.

Remember when the music you played was from a vinyl, big-holed record called a forty-five? The record player had a post to keep them all in line and then the records would drop down and play one at a time.

Remember when life seemed so much easier and slower in some ways? Don't get me wrong, I personally love the new technology but I sure miss some of those days. So, time moves on and so do we, and nothing stays the same. But I sure love to reminisce and walk down memory lane now and then.

Oh sure, we had our problems then, just like we do today and as always we were striving and trying for a better way. Oh, the simple life we lived still seems like so much fun. How can you explain a game, just kick the can and run?

Or playing Jacks!

Remember when!

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall!

We have all looked in the mirror and pulled our skin up and wonder what it would be like to have your 20-year old face back. I'd settle for my 50 year old face back and body too for that matter. I wish our society would make us feel better about getting older instead of glamorizing youth, which is a very short period of life.

People are trying to look airbrushed in daily life and that is not healthy. So, I decided that I'm content to expose my wrinkles, creases and every freckle and age spots. I'm a bit fearful of needles because I don't want to walk around with weird puffy lips or a stiff forehead. Not to mention the cost of these procedures every 3-4 months....Yikes! I know Botox is poison. It is best to just stay clear of all of them.

Oh, and the thoughts of a surgeon with that knife!!!!! Egad!

I'm fortunate to be using a skin product that does wonders for my very sensitive skin thanks to TC. So many products out on the store shelves that promise to nourish, replenish or renew aging skin and hair. At least some newer ads today are using real older women in their 50s and 60s who happily expose every wrinkle in their recent ad campaigns. Thanks for acknowledging us old bitties!

And, don't be fooled....many men have the same concerns about aging skin and they too want to look younger. Fortunately, for men….their gray hair is sexy and their wrinkles look distinguished. Oh, the trials and tribulations of being a woman! We would all be lying if we said we didn’t want to look younger. I for one.

I just had to write another entry to keep my mind off of the freaking three hurricanes out in the tropics heading towards Florida. One named, Ike is already a category four! Yikes! Time to sit down with Johnny Walker Red!!!!!!!!!!!

Feeling Ugly?????

Gosh, lately……if it wasnt for irritability, grouchiness and mono-syllabic grunts, I would have no personality at all. Lack of sleep is making me one unhappy camper! It even makes you feel ugly! Che faccia brutta!

Sometimes, wouldnt you just like to close your eyes wave that magic wand and say “Abracadabra.” Now open your eyes and all your dreams come true! I guess I have been doing a lot of day dreaming lately. Certainly not night time dreaming! I don’t sleep long enough to dream.

I just seem to be bored with everything lately. Tired of the bar scenes, tired of the online dating sites…..you know the ones….. SWM looking for lovable, affectionate, fun-loving companion, who enjoys long walks on the beach and evenings curled up by the fire. (what? No five star restaurants??) LOL

And, my response would probably be………..MeetFido”.

TV is getting so boring…all the repeats, campaign crap, and all those damn info-mercials are driving me crazy! What happened to those great sitcoms…the good old days….when TV was considered entertainment.

South Florida………….during the summer TV is filled with so much hype over every tropical storm and potential hurricanes which you really cannot ignore because I’ve been through many of them and they were all terrible disasters! I miss New England and the different seasons (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) not just hot and hotter like down here! Yep, the weatherman is now tracking Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Hanna. Here we go again!

Who doesnt love and miss I Love Lucy! LOL Those were the days when TV was entertainment.

Its getting dark out….time to pour myself a glass of wine. I have no clue what I’m going to have for dinner because I forgot to defrost something.

Wine doesnt go too well with Cheerios does it? LOL

Well, usually buying a new pair of shoes makes me happy......maybe I'll search for a sale tomorrow and get out of this mood and go out dancing for a change!
